2011 National Electrical Code Schedule
This new 2011 NEC will be used as the standard by governmental agencies upon
adoption. The length of time until adoption by each governmental authority
having jurisdiction varies greatly. There are some geographic regions of the USA
who still use the 1996 NEC. They have not adopted newer editions for their own
reasons. Typically a new code is adopted a year or more after release. Perhaps
this lag time is appropriate so electrical designers, construction estimators,
electrical equipment manufacturers, inspection departments and professional
electricians can incorporate the changes into ongoing and future electrical work.
The 2011 NEC has traveled a long road to get released. Here is the schedule
it has followed up to this point:
